Nurse Practitioner (Sessional/Casual)

Our Medicare Urgent Care Clinic in Warrnambool is looking for a highly professional,
friendly, well organised Nurse Practitioner to join our clinical team on a
sessional/casual basis as part of our Triage Team.
About the Role
The objectives of the Nurse Practitioner (NP) role is to provide safe, efficient and
quality care to patients and their families presenting to the Medicare Urgent Care
Clinic (UCC) and to demonstrate clinical and professional leadership as a senior staff
member. The NP is an integral member of the UCC health care team who practices
in collaboration with other health professionals to assess and manage patients within
their clinical context using nursing knowledge and skills within a fast-paced
environment. The NP contributes towards the Medicare UCC program, Epichealth
and community through involvement in education, research, quality improvement
and professional leadership.
Key responsibilities:
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Provide advanced and autonomous expert care to patients and families in
accordance with Nurse Practitioner legislation and functions by:
– Prescribing medications
– Ordering and analysing pathology and radiological tests
– Referring patients to GPs and other health care professionals whilst working as part of our Triage Nurse Team. - Work collaboratively to support medical and nursing colleagues in the performance of their clinical role.
- Actively communicate and coordinate with colleagues and specialist services when providing team care.
- Record and maintain accurate, adequate and relevant patient records using the established practice protocols and computerised medical rec ords system (Best Practice) while meeting legislative standards and accreditation requirements.
- Provide leadership in the coordination and implementation of quality improvement activities specific to the Nurse Practitioner role.
- Ensure nursing compliance with Federal/State legislation, nursing competency standards and Epichealth policies and procedures.
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking someone who has:
Essential:
- AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse with endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Advanced clinical experience in the assessment and treatment of illness and
injury and health promotion relevant to the role and within individual scope of practice. - Demonstrated extensive professional and/or leadership experience.
- Demonstrated clinical problem-solving skills including conceptual and analytical ability.
- Advanced interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills (both written and verbal).
- Knowledge, understanding and experience in quality improvement, its practical
application in meeting patient’s needs and quality service delivery. - Knowledge, understanding and experience of research findings to support evidence-based practice.
- Experience in quality improvement, its practical application in meeting patients’ needs and its relationship to strategic development.
- Sound knowledge of relevant legislation and health regulating Acts and legislative obligations.
- Evidence of appropriate and continuing professional indemnity insurance.
Desirable:
- Demonstrated understanding of key cultural issues influencing practice, patient relationship and patient need.
- Experience within a general practice/emergency care setting.
- Experience with the accreditation process and quality improvement requirements.
- An understanding or experience of the RACGP Standards for General Practices (5 th Edition).
Other:
- Appropriate Tertiary qualification ie. Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
- Minimum 3-years nursing experience.
- Basic Life Support certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
- Triage certification.
- A current National Police Records Check.
- A current Working with Children Check.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software systems eg. Word and Excel.
- Current Driver’s Licence.
- Work rights in Australia or be eligible for such.
